La Ausente (1951)
He was born in Ciudad Jimenez in , a year before the Mexican Revolution. His family was middle class but living in the region where the conflict was born divided his family. He planned to become either an architect or an engineer and went to Mexico City to study, and to live amongst the intellectual and cultural influences of a sophisticated city.
Featuring films made between and , the season extends the span of this vibrant period in Mexican filmmaking slightly beyond its generally agreed upon parameters , but with good reason. This emphasis on the very excellent urban films produced during this period presents a different canon of Mexican classical cinema in line with the current celebrations taking place globally, including retrospectives of Mexican noir at MoMA in New York and the Cinematheque in Melbourne.
